Welcome to Finding Common Ground,
a new blog that is dedicated towards finding Common Ground inside the Christian
Church and beyond. I believe this discussion is important because Christian
denominations as well as Christian individuals have been focusing on their
differences for far too long. Finding the negative is so easy, but if we were
to change directions and look at our commonalities, it’s amazing how much we
can learn from each other.
My own Christian journey has been
deeply enriched by my own interdenominational experiences because I grew up
inside the United Church and as a student attended the Pentecostal church full-time
for about 8 years. I maintain my connections and attend both whenever I can. I
also belong to the Catholic Church full time. I love all of them equally and I
have friends inside all three that I cherish deeply. They also have prayerful,
loving God following people who attend them. Their spiritual leaders are also
God following and loving people. God lives inside them and the way the Holy
Spirit moves inside each denomination is amazing to experience. I firmly
believe all three sides can learn from each other because where one side is
strong; the other is weak. For example some denominations are strong in evangelizing,
others are good at contemplative prayer, worship, helping the poor, standing up
for the word of God with issues related to abortion and more. Others are also
weak in these areas in these areas as well. If all of them were able to come
together and focus on our commonalties, imagine how God’s kingdom could expand.
Let's start talking.
